How do we exhibit a School?

The answer to the opposite question is much more obvious: how you “do not” exhibit a School. You don’t exhibit a School through a traditionally enclosed building, regardless of how beautiful, or perfectly executed.

This design proposal emerges from the following concern: the Bauhaus museum should engage with the notion of interaction. The basis of the program for the Dessau School of Design is interaction between art, architecture, design, photography and spatial art.

The proposal is a building that embodies the notion of interaction in its own space and structure, generating a process of Urban and cultural osmosis with the city of Dessau. We envisioned the Bauhaus Museum of Dessau as an “exchanging plate” between inside and outside; a permeable device that absorbs the urban and natural surroundings within itself and in turn emanates the Bauhaus spirit back towards the city.

Dessau is an active part of this exchange process, an architectural matter that defines concept and space and that is in a relationship of open and constant interaction with the Museum itself.
